Bree West is an award-winning writer, showrunner, producer, and director, and the Co-Founder, Senior Vice President, and Chief Creative Officer of OCTET Productions, a full-service film, television, and event studio headquartered in Washington, D.C. A two-time NAACP Image Award–nominated creative and member of The Television Academy, Bree has written, produced, or directed more than twenty-five film and television projects across major platforms including BET, BET+, Lifetime, TV One, ALLBLK/AMC Networks, Amazon Prime, Apple TV, and HBO Max. Bree began her film career in 2015 with the co-executive production of The Real MVP: The Wanda Durant Story, after which she and her husband and producing partner, Chuck West, founded OCTET Productions. She quickly emerged as one of the most distinctive voices in independent Black cinema—known for merging culturally resonant storytelling with broad commercial appeal.
Her scripted work includes the critically acclaimed BET+ holiday franchise A Wesley Christmas, which has earned three NAACP Image Award nominations, including Outstanding Writing. Bree also served as co-showrunner of the hit AMC Networks/ALLBLK series HUSH, where she made her directorial debut in Season 2. She has produced and written a slate of successful romantic comedies and thrillers including Angrily Ever After; ’Twas the Chaos Before Christmas—the highest-rated holiday film in BET Networks history upon premiere; Wake; and A Kismet Holiday, winner of the 2024 Essence Film Festival Jury Prize for Best Narrative.
Her dark comedy feature The Class Reunion opened the 2025 DC Light Reel Film Festival and is an official selection of the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival. In 2024, Bree co-wrote and produced A Wesley South African Christmas, filmed entirely in
Durban, KwaZulu-Natal—a groundbreaking project uniting an African American family with a Zulu South African family onscreen. The film earned five nominations at the 2025 Simon Mabhuna Sabela Awards and serves as a cornerstone of OCTET’s evolving global-diaspora slate.
Through OCTET, Bree recently served as a Washington, D.C. Unit Producer for the upcoming HBO Max/Showmax international series Weapon of Mass Destruction and is currently in development on an original feature film for Netflix centered on an HBCU dance team. She is also in post-production on a destination romantic comedy filmed in Nevis and is currently writing and developing a number of feature films and episodic series.
A recognized creative leader, Bree is the recipient of the 2025 Spectrum Circle Award for Innovation in Entertainment, the 2025 RISE Trailblazer Media & Film Image Maker Award, and was honored as OCTFME Filmmaker of the Month in March 2022.
A committed mentor and advocate for the next generation of filmmakers, Bree has lectured and developed training partnerships with Duke Ellington School of the Arts, Howard University, American University, Bowie State University, and Lebone II College of the Royal Bafokeng in South Africa. Her leadership emphasizes cultural authenticity, industry access, and global creative exchange.

She and her husband Chuck are devoted to raising their beautifully blended family of eight, grounding her artistry in both purpose and heart.
