Dunnie Onasanya is an artist and educator whose work is driven by a mission to create art that heals, inspires, and transforms. She is dedicated to using art as a tool for personal and collective healing and for strengthening community connection. Her vibrant abstract works incorporate metallic pigments, gold leaf, glass, and jewels, reflecting a creative process deeply influenced by restorative energy, movement, lived experiences, her faith walk, motherhood, and West African heritage.
Dunnie is currently the Artist-in-Residence at Modern Contempo, a luxury furniture gallery located in North Bethesda, Maryland, where her artwork is featured in the flagship store showroom and available for purchase both in person and online. In her Artist-in-Residence role at the Morrow Hotel in Washington, D.C., during summer 2025, she launched the Art of Inner Peace Paint & Sip Wellness Workshop Event Series—a seasonal experience designed to promote mindfulness, creativity, and community.
Her work remains on property at the Viceroy Washington DC, where she has also curated exhibitions celebrating local women and Black contemporary artists. She held a solo exhibition at the BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown, Maryland, where she completed a residency and shared her work with the local community. Dunnie’s artwork is also featured at Guest House DC, where she is honored to exhibit alongside other exceptional artists.
She continues to collaborate with major cultural institutions, including the Smithsonian Museum of African Art, where in 2023 she launched a transformative workshop series rooted in art therapy and emotional wellness. These collaborations underscore her commitment to blending creativity with social impact, using art as a catalyst for healing, personal growth, and deeper connection. Dunnie is also an associate artist and faculty instructor at the VisArts Center Gallery in Rockville, Maryland.
