Chicago native and Virginia State University alumnus ‘14, Jahliel Thurman is a dynamic television host, producer and content creator dedicated to amplifying the stories of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).He is the host and co-creator of HBCU 101, a nationally syndicated television series that celebrates HBCU culture, student life and alumni Achievements.
Jahliel’s communications journey began at Virginia State University, where he studied Mass Communications with a concentration in Television and Broadcasting and served as both Student Government Association President and President of the Nu Psi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated. During his time on campus, he recognized the need for greater representation of Black stories in media — a realization that sparked his passion for storytelling and advocacy.
As the creative force and on-air host of HBCU 101 on Aspire TV , Jahliel has interviewed a wide range of influential HBCU alumni including award-winning actors Anthony Anderson and Keshia Knight Pulliam, Slutty Vegan founder Pinky Cole, Wild ‘N Out star and comedian Eman Hudson and appeared as a guest on Cam Newton’s “Funky Friday” podcast. His authentic, high-energy interview style has made the show a vital platform for celebrating Black excellence.
Beyond the screen, Jahliel is the founder of Yard Talk 101, a boutique minority-owned digital marketing agency that specializes in content strategy and development. His commitment to authentic storytelling and uplifting underserved voices also led him to co-found Bamboo Studios, a creative production space in Atlanta that has hosted a variety of projects including an episode of HBCU Gameday for Fox Soul.
Furthering his mission of impact, Jahliel launched the Jahliel Thurman Foundation, an organization focused on empowering youth in underserved communities through mentorship, educational programming and leadership development.
With over five years of experience in the entertainment industry and a passion rooted in purpose, Jahliel Thurman continues to use his voice to inspire, educate and champion communities across the country.
