Twenty years ago, I walked across the yard at Tuskegee University with a vision to build something bigger than myself—a career that combined culture, creativity, and commerce. As I reflect on the two decades since earning my degree, I realize that Tuskegee didn’t just educate me—it ignited me. The university’s deep-rooted legacy, paired with progressive programs in fashion, creativity, marketing, and global business, prepared me to lead with both purpose and innovation. It was there that I learned how to transform bold ideas into impact-driven brands and sustainable ventures, and I credit my success to that uniquely Tuskegee blend of tradition and trailblazing spirit.
Being part of Tuskegee’s legacy means standing on the shoulders of giants. From George Washington Carver, whose innovations transformed agriculture, to Lionel Richie–whose voice and artistry shaped global music, Tuskegee’s alumni have always disrupted the norm. Global icons like Booker T. Washington, Kenya Barris (TV writer/producer), and military leaders like General Daniel “Chappie” James Jr. inspired me to dream without limitation. Their stories reminded me that our degrees are not just qualifications—they’re calls to action.
Tuskegee University offers a dynamic range of academic programs that foster creativity, cultural awareness, and global strategy—all rooted in its legacy of excellence. The Department of Apparel Merchandising and Design equips students with deep knowledge in fashion history, textile science, garment construction, and retail management, preparing them for careers in fashion design, buying, styling, and brand development. In the Robert R. Taylor School of Architecture and Construction Science, students pursue degrees in Architecture that emphasize sustainable design, historical preservation, and innovation, while honoring the legacy of the school’s namesake—the first Black graduate of MIT and one of the original architects of Tuskegee’s campus.
In the realm of global innovation and strategy, the Andrew F. Brimmer College of Business and Information Science offers programs in Global Business, Marketing, and Management, blending entrepreneurial thinking with real-world economics and cross-cultural engagement. Students learn how to lead in international markets, launch ethically grounded businesses, and harness digital platforms to drive global impact. Complementing these are programs in Visual Arts and Design, where students explore creative expression across digital media, fine arts, and design theory, preparing them to be leaders in creative industries and beyond. Together, these programs position Tuskegee University as a launchpad for students who want to merge style, strategy, and substance in industries around the world.
